Jody Brown’s brief tenure as Welling United manager came to an end on Monday evening when he was sacked after just nine games in charge.

Brown replaced Jamie Day in December following the former boss’ departure to Ebbsfleet United but lasted just 73 days in the role, drawing just one game and losing the remaining eight.

Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at fellow strugglers Nuneaton proved to be the final straw, with the Wings now only being kept out of the Conference drop zone because of a superior goal difference over Southport.

Current Welling player Loui Fazakerley has been placed in control until further notice and will take charge for the first time when BT Sport broadcast Sunday’s Park View Road encounter with Altrincham.

A statement released to wellingunited.com confirmed: “Welling have relieved manager Jody Brown of his duties with immediate effect.

“After a run of nine matches which has seen the club take just one point, the board felt that they had to act immediately in the best interests of the club’s short-term aim of avoiding relegation.

“As a result, long-serving defender Loui Fazakerley will head a caretaker management team for the foreseeable future.

“The club’s board has urged supporters to get behind Fazza and the playing squad, starting with Sunday’s televised fixture at home to Altrincham (1pm).

“The board would like to place on record their thanks to Jody and his coaching staff for their efforts in the past two months.”
