Bromley fell at the first hurdle in this long delayed First Round London Senior Cup tie at Hayes Lane against Ryman League Division One Corinthian Casuals.

Fielding an almost Under 18 Academy side – there were just four players with First Team experience – the home side lacked penetration in the penalty area.

Both sides had chances in the first half, with Jordan Higgs, Kei Brewster and Adam Birchall all having opportunities for Bromley; whilst Cisse Bamoussa and Jamie Byatt did likewise at the other end, before goalkeeper, Paul Agu, parried Bamoussa’s volley to gather at the second attempt late in the half.

Birchall headed over Paul Rodgers’s cross early in the second period, before Corinthian Casuals opened the scoring in the 51st minute.  A long downfield clearance saw Joevan Spencer dispossess Callum McNaughton to plant a first time shot under the diving Agu.

Casuals goalkeeper, Danny Bracken, saved well from Eden Dewar-Douglas, and Brewster was denied a chance on goal by a timely tackle from Joe Hicks, after skipping around three defenders.

Birchall could not direct his header from a Conal O’Leary cross before Birchall returned the compliment, and O’Leary headed over with only bracken to beat as Bromley looked to level the scores.

The visitors went close with Jamie Byatt forcing a good save out of Agu, before the goalkeeper was substituted and Bradley Morgan replaced him.

Morgan had little to do, but could do nothing about the second goal scored in the fourth minute of added time from the penalty spot, when McNaughton brought down an opposing forward on the byeline.

Byatt stepped up to blast the spot kick past the substitute goalkeeper, to leave Bromley fans pondering the question as to why Bromley enter this competition if they are not taking it seriously.

Bromley: Agu (Morgan, 61), Rodgers (Newton, 70), O’Leary, Fuseini, McNaughton, McGrady, Thompson, Higgs, Dewar-Douglas (Bloor, 70), Birchall, Brewster. Subs not used: Ward, Akemi
