Bromley’s unbeaten run of 11 games came to an abrupt end at Hayes Lane on New Year’s Day, when Concord Rangers gained ample revenge for the 4-1 home defeat that the Essex side suffered just seven days earlier.

It was Bromley’s fifth home League defeat of the season, and in truth they never looked likely to secure the points in what must rank as their worst performance of the season.

The visitors took the game to Bromley from the off, and always looked dangerous on the break.  After Lewis Taaffe had broke clear to see his effort brush off the outcoming goalkeeper for a corner kick, the centre forward put the visitors ahead on 20 minutes.

A Bromley attack broke down deep in Concord territory, and two passes later it was in the Bromley net as Taaffe stole in at the back post unmarked to head Tony Stokes’s deep cross past the Bromley goalkeeper.

The hosts levelled just four minutes later from the penalty spot, after Louis Dennis had been brought down by the visiting goalkeeper, Josh Vickers.  Dennis took the spot kick to sent it high into the net.

Sam Collins went close for Concord, whilst Jamie Slabber and Moses Ademola both had efforts blocked at the other end, following Damian Scannell’s cross.

As half-time loomed, Taaffe again broke away to cross from the byeline, where Seb Brown dived full length to touch James White’s rather tame shot around the post.

Bromley’s second half performance left a lot to be desired, as they continually lost control, passed to the opposition and were second to the ball in nearly every tackle.  It was no surprise, therefore, when Concord went ahead for the second time on 56 minutes.

A long ball over the top picked out Steve Cawley and, as Brown came rushing from his goal, the winger simply flicked the ball past the goalkeeper into an exposed net.

Bromley’s response was half hearted, as Ugo Udoji fired into the side netting and Reece Prestedge’s free kick – after Dennis had been upended in full flight on the left touchline by Jack Lampe – was to close to Vickers.

Concord continued to enjoy the better of the exchanges, and Brown saved well from …… before Callum McNaughton nearly put through his own goal, only for his blushes to be saved by the Bromley goalkeeper diving full length to gather the ball.

In time added on Bromley were reduced to ten men as Jack Holland was red carded for denying Gary Olgilvie a goalscoring opportunity, bundling him over in the box. But Brown got down well to save Ogilvies firmly struck penalty kick.

Bromley: Brown, Udoji, Anderson (Fuseini, 82), Prestedge (Birchall, 69), McNaughton, Holland, Scannell, Waldren, Slabber (Robertson, 46), Ademola, Dennis. Subs not used: Rodgers, Agu
