Despite conceding a sixth minute goal, Bromley came back strongly to record a convincing
4-1 victory over Essex rivals Concord Rangers in the Boxing Day fixture on Canvey island.

After a slow start the visitors went behind when a mix-up between goalkeeper Seb Brown and a defender resulted in Joe Gardner giving the home side an early lead, and they continued to enjoy the better of the exchanges.

Bromley, however, gradually began to stamp their authority on the game, with Damian Scannell’s header being saved, before Louis Dennis fired over the crossbar.

Bromley nearly levelled on 38 minutes when Adam Birchall’s overhead kick, from Scannell’s cross, was saved with some difficulty by Concord’s goalkeeper, Josh Vickers, underneath the crossbar.

The visitors deservedly drew level four minute later when Jack Holland fastened onto a clearance from a corner to send a high lob into the penalty area, where Dennis did well to beat the offside trap and stretch to toe punt the ball home.

Danny Waldren sent a free-kick into the midrift of Vickers; and Taylor Miles was denied by Brown at the other end, before the half time whistle ended the first half.

Bromley took the lead in the 50th minute following a free kick which bobbled about the goalmouth, before Birchall hooked the ball across goal from the byeline for Jamie Slabber to head home at the far post.

Birchall was denied by Vickers, the goalkeeper just getting his hand to the forwards effort from a tight angle; before Bromley went further ahead in the 64th minute from the penalty spot, after Slabber’s cross had been handled by Matt Fry.

Dennis stepped up confidently to send Vickers the wrong way for his second goal of the game.

Sam Collins created a chance for Concord, but there was nobody around goal to finish off his tantalising cross that evaded three Bromley defenders in the 74th minute.

The visitors completed the scoring with thirteen minutes remaining.  Birchall laid the ball back to Scannell, whose cross found the head of Slabber.  His header was only cleared as far as Waldren who slammed home from 12 yards giving Vickers no chance at all.

With almost the last kick of the game, Steve Cawley saw his strike came back off the crossbar as Bromley maintained their second place in the League table.
