Cray suffered a disappointing result as a late goal for Chatham Town settled a scrappy match on the 27th December.
Chatham would have led at half time but for a fine display from Darren Behcet in goal. Greg Benbow was through on goal but his shot was on target but well saved. Ten minutes later Benbow hit an excellent shot from just outside the area which was matched with a great save from Behcet who got a good hand to the ball to palm it wide for a corner. Behcet also saved well from Junior Kaffu.
For Cray Tyrone Berry tested Chatham keeper Tom Wellham with a shot on target.
In the second half Cray’s best chance fell to Laurent Hamici who did well down the left side his cross shot just evaded a touch in the penalty area.
Chatham had two great chances to score. First Richard Davies somehow headed wide in front of goal and then almost straight away Anthony Carlton blazed a shot over the cross bar from inside the area.
Chatham scored the winning goal in the 82nd minute when Matt Solly’s corner was met by the head of Carlton and although the ball was cleared by Alex Stavrinou the ball had clearly crossed the line and the goal was given.
Cray: Behcet, Griffin, Springett, Larin, Fitzgerald, Stavrinou, Fakinos, Isa (Hamici), Welford (Kedze), Hunt (Stone), Berry: Subs: Simpson, Williams
