An F.A. Trophy game between local rivals from different leagues is always an enticing proposition but the game between Ebbsfleet United and Welling United had additional spice.

Earlier in the week Jamie Day and his management team left Welling to take the reins at Ebbsfleet, although taking a watching role from the stand for this game.

Aristide Bassele had the first shot of the game when catching Michael Corcoran in possession but his effort lacked both accuracy and power,

Joey Taylor's industry down the left wing won Welling a free kick and Sam Corne's delivery caused chaos but Tyrone Marsh's shot was blocked.

Chris Bush fired just wide from a Joe Healy touched free kick after a foul that saw Shane Huke cautioned.

Billy Bricknell found himself in space but Benji Buchel was out quickly to block with his left shin, then Dean Rance headed over from Chris Sessegnon's cross as the Fleet came back into the game.

Anthony Cook slung in a free kick that was half cleared to Rance, but Buchel saved at a cost of a corner that was headed over by Kenny Clark.

After 29 minutes the Wings went ahead. Marsh's clever footwork tricked Huke into tripping him and Kieron St. Aimie despatched the spot kick confidently.

Taylor was sent off harshly in the 38th minute when penalised in a 50/50 challenge with Rance. Matters got worse for the Wings when they failed to deal with the ensuing free kick and Anthony Acheampong was left with time and space to finish against his former club.

Chris Bush moved out to left back and Zach Fagan was withdrawn from midfield to play alongside the impressive Jamal Fyfield.

Matt Godden was thwarted by another Buchel save as Welling looked for the half time break to re-group.

After the interval, Bricknell shot wide for the Fleet before McMahon brought himself on for Matt Johnson and tested Buchel with a low drive from 25 yards.

Cook missed a fine chance from Godden's cross as the hosts looked to make the most of their numerical advantage.

Bush broke out but fired well wide then Bassele fired over after being set up by St. Aimie as Welling showed that they were not looking to just see time out.

Sam Corne then played the pass of the match to send St. Aimie clear but Kenny Clark recovered to make a great saving tackle.

Neither side were able to find a winner and will meet again in a replay on Tuesday night.
