Dartford manager Tony Burman admitted he was slightly disappointed his side were handed an away tie at Bradford City in the FA Cup.

Burman’s men progressed to the second round after beating local rivals Bromley in a seven-goal thriller last week.

The Conference outfit currently sit 55 places below Bradford in the Football League, but the Princes Park boss is still looking forward to what will be a memorable outing for Dartford FC.

Burman said: “To be honest, I was initially gutted that we didn’t get a home tie.

“I’m disappointed for the supporters and the town because a home draw in the FA Cup gets the whole town buzzing.

“But we’ll go there and enjoy the day – it’s a great occasion for the club.

“To be in the second round is amazing, it hasn’t happened for 30 years.”

The 56-year-old manager also asserted that while entering any fixture hoping for a draw is often unwise, a replay would certainly suffice.

He said: “In theory you don’t want a replay because it just adds to the fixtures you’ve got to play, but it would be a fantastic achievement and we should be able to get Princes Park rocking again.

“We know we’ve got one hell of a tough game but the pressure’s not on us and sometimes that can help you play some good football.”

Moreover, Burman believes the 4-3 first round victory over Bromley added to the confidence and character in the Dartford dressing room.

“Bromley was a tough game, it’s a tough place to go and I didn’t think we got enough credit for the win,” he said.

“I thought my players were excellent on the day and although it’s done now, the result helped us in the changing room and that’s shown in our last two games.”

Dartford rounded off a productive week with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Southport on Saturday thanks to a Harry Crawford’s injury time equaliser.

And the boss believed a share of the spoils was fully deserved.

He said: “Teams have scored against us late before this season, it was our turn today.

“But I felt we definitely deserved something from the game.

“We’ve had a tough week with three games in eight days, all on heavy pitches, so I’ve got to give the guys a lot of credit for batting back.

“Fair play to Southport, they kept plugging away.

“I thought it was a decent game and I’m just happy we got something from it.

“It’s not what we really wanted, but we’ve got a point.”

The demanding schedule has taken its toll on the Dartford dressing room and Mat Mitchell-King, Lee Burns and Andy Pugh are expected to be unavailable for selection for Dartford’s visit to Lincoln on Saturday.
