Bromley prepared for Saturday’s big FA Cup clash with Dartford in perfect style with a 4-1 league success at Eastbourne Borough.

Hosts Eastbourne were the first to attack and Gavin McCallum’s shot curled wide.

Former Bromley keeper Lewis Carey denied Pierre Joseph-Dubois in a one-on-one with the forward, who had been put clear with a delightful through ball from Jordan Robertson.

But moments later Bromley took an eighth minute lead as Robertson quickly repeated his party piece.

Moses Ademola was the recipient this time and shrugged off the challenge of Adam Watts to calmly round Carey before firing into an empty net.

Bromley should have increased their advantage around the half hour mark when a flowing movement started in their own half ended with Ademola laying a pass back to Robertson, whose rather weak effort rolled just the wrong side of the upright.

However, it was Eastbourne who levelled the scores on the crink of half-time.

A poor defensive header by debutant, Callum McNaughton, went straight to Ryan Worrell, who was subsequently brought down on the edge of the area by Ali Fuseini.

Sam Beale stepped up to send his free-kick over the defensive wall and beyond keeper Seb Brown’s reach.

The turning point of the game came in the third minute of added time after only two minutes had originally been indicated.

Paul Rodgers, another Bromley newcomer making his league debut, was adjudged to have fouled James Walker on the byline in the area.

However, Brown got down well to save McCallum’s fancy spot-kick and both sides went in level at the interval.

The second half performance from Bromley was probably the best the travelling fans have seen for a very long time, as time and time again their flowing football caused problems for Eastbourne.

Ademola was unlucky not to grab his second of the game within a minute of the restart when he fastened onto a Rodgers’s clearance.

With Carey off his line, his attempted lob from 25 yards landed just the wrong side of the bar.

However, he had better luck in the 53rd minute when Reece Prestedge dinked the ball over a defender’s head for Ademola to run onto and slip it past the advancing Carey into the net via the post.

Kiran Khinda-John was on hand to block Louis Dennis’ cross-shot after a penetrating run by the Bromley front man before the visitors increased their lead on 58 minutes.

A Joe Anderson throw in led to a poor clearance and the unmarked Joseph-Dubois crashed home a superb half volley which left Carey stranded.

In an isolated attack from Eastbourne, one-time Charlton player Dean Sinclair saw his shot scrape the outside of the far post as Brown scrambled across his goal.

Back at the other end, Ademola was denied his hat-trick by a defender’s boot after he had cleverly rounded Beale.

Rob Swaine nearly got in on the act when he headed over from Fuseini’s free-kick before substitute Jack Holland put the game out of the reach of Eastbourne in the 84th minute.

Picking up possession in his own half, he proceeded to race forward leaving three defenders in his wake, before sublimely shooting home from just inside the box past a bewildered Carey.

Mitchell Pinnock had two late chances to increase the lead when his 30 yarder whizzed the wrong side of the post and another long distance free-kick came crashing back off the crossbar as Bromley moved up the table to fourth.
