For the second consecutive league match, Welling United conceded an injury time winner.

Visitors Barnet came into the game eight points clear at the top but were pushed all the way by the Wings.

Benji Buchel, making his Wings league debut, was soon in action punching out a teasing free kick before John Akinde served notice of the danger he would pose with a shot that flashed wide.

Jake Gallagher almost got on the end of a flowing Welling move before Barnet went ahead.

Failure to clear a corner proved costly and Akinde blasted home from 12 yards.

Akinde came close to adding a second soon after but headed a deep cross over the bar.

Joe Healy almost got Ben Jefford in before Barney Williams and Malachi Hudson combined to give Harry Beautyman a half chance but his volley was claimed easily by Graham Stack in the Barnet goal.

Two minutes before the break, Welling levelled. Chris Bush's free kick was too hot for Stack and Healy followed up to bundle home.

Lee Cook fired over for Barnet just before the break.

Early in the second period, Jamal Fyfield made a vital tackle as Akinde raced away on the break then Buchel had to get down low to save from Luisma Villa.

David Stephens headed over from a deep free kick before Gallagher drew a save from Stack from Jamie Day's long ball.

Stephens missed another chance when heading a corner wide, then Villa crashed a free kick into the wall and over.

Gallagher and Kieron St. Aimie combined well but Andy Yiadom made a crucial tackle to thwart the Wings' captain.

Fyfield then crossed to the near post where St. Aimie's effort was brilliantly saved by Stack.

Beautyman had a shot blocked from Jon Nouble's square pass as Welling finished strongly but there was a sting in the tail in injury time.

Having made a save from a Beautyman curler, Stack launched long allowing Akinde to break through and finish.
