Harry Beautyman’s first half brace and a double from Tyrone Marsh in the second ensured Welling United enjoyed a comfortable victory over Nuneaton Town.

Although down to the bare bones, the win may have been more comprehensive as the visitors struggled to contain the Wings’ flowing moves.

Jamie Day chose Jamie Turner in goal to replace Jonathan Henly, but the absence of Chris Bush, suspended controversially, and Zach Fagan meant that Jake Gallagher had to drop into central defence.

Loui Fazakerley's injury meant he also missed out while Jamal Fyfield had to have a head injury strapped up to allow him to play.

Marsh called Reice Charles-Cook into action early on as he had to be down sharply to save after the Welling striker’s clever footwork had given him the chance.

Connor Franklin came from nowhere to meet a deep cross with a first time effort that flew well wide.

Beautyman opened the scoring in the 18th minute when his free kick deceived everyone and nestled inside the far post.

Their lead lasted just four minutes, however, as Gareth Dean rose to meet a deep free kick and head home powerfully.

Fyfield looked for an immediate response but headed Beautyman’s far post corner over.

Malachi Hudson had a shot blocked bravely by Dean, and the Nuneaton captain was busy again making a crucial well timed tackle to thwart Beautyman.

It looked as though Nuneaton had weathered the storm and were going to go in level until Aristide Bassele collected a long through ball and was brought down by Charles-Cook as he attempted to round him. Referee David Rock wasted no time in showing him a red card. Adam Dawson was sacrificed as substitute goalkeeper James Hogarth-Wren was brought on.

His first job was to pick the ball out of the back of the net. Beautyman looked to curl a free kick into the far corner but a huge deflection sent it the other way with the goalkeeper a helpless onlooker.

There was still time for Bassele to fire wide before the end of an entertaining first half.

Ben Jefford sent Hudson away early in the second half and the young Wings forward showed skill and strength before pulling back to Bassele whose effort was tipped wide.

Another Beautyman free kick curled over before a low Jefford cross went just beyond Bassele at the far post.

Once again, Jefford found space down the left win and another low cross was just out of the reach of both Marsh and Beautyman.

Barney Williams joined the party on the other wing and crossed for Beautyman to power in a header that was saved brilliantly by the young Boro goalkeeper.

He was again in action when his tip from Beautyman’s corner caused Bassele to head over from close range.

Eventually, the pressure told and in the 72nd minute Marsh collected Beautyman’s pass and outpaced the defence before slotting home coolly.

Two minutes later, Marsh exchanged passes with Hudson before finishing clinically from a tight angle.

Only an offside flag stopped Marsh from completing his hat-trick and Fyfield slipped a shot just wide after taking a return pass from the lively striker.

He then found substitute Sam Corne with a cross field pass but the youngster fired over then another replacement, Jon Nouble, finished well but Joe Healy was adjudged offside in the build up.

As time ran down, Beautyman’s skill sent him through but his stabbed effort hit the post and went wide.
