Another away day gave Welling United a tough challenge as they travelled to Kidderminster in front of a live TV audience.

Danny Lewis was the first goalkeeper called into action when diving at Loui Fazakerley's feet after a good move involving Jamie Day, Harry Beautyman and Tyrone Marsh.

Jack Byrne then made a horrible mess of a shot for Kidderminster after Michael Gash had headed a long Kevin Nicholson cross out.

Maybe that should have been a warning as another deep ball that was only half cleared undid Welling in the 13th minute. Jared Hodgkiss followed up when it came out and whacked a low shot that took a deflection giving the wrong footed Jon Henly no chance.

Joe Healy had a shot for Welling but the intervention from Hodgkiss deflected his effort away from goal, then Beautyman shot wide on the turn.

More good Welling football presented a shooting chance for Jamie Day but his effort clipped the outside of the post and went wide.

Jamal Fyfield then headed wide from a corner as the Harriers struggled to cope with Welling's movement orchestrated by Day.

On the break, Marvin Johnson fired into the near post side netting but Welling were soon back on the attack and some desperate defending cleared a Beautyman free kick.

After 37 minutes, Kidderminster increased their lead against the run of play. Nicholson's free kick was pushed out by Henly, but struck the unfortunate Fyfield and rebounded back into the net.

Marsh had a low effort saved before another ball over the top threatened to undo Welling again. Heny rushed out and cleaned out both Kyle Storer and Fyfield, earning himself a booking. The free kick came to nothing and the Welling players trudged off wondering how they were two behind.

Loui Fazakerley was forced off the pitch two minutes into the second half when sustaining a knee injury and Aristide Bassele replaced him.

Barney Williams crossed after good work by Zach Fagan and Bassele and Hodgkiss was grateful to head away for a corner.

Beautyman pulled one back in the 53rd minute when Chris Bush was too strong for Gash Ben Jefford broke down the wing and crossed low for the Wings' leading scorer to finish from close range.

A scrappy spell followed as Kidderminster tried to take the sting out of the game. Substitutions for the hosts were made but still Welling continued to play the more eye catching football.

Despite that they struggled to create chances and Craig Reid had a header saved before substitute Nathan Blissett sshould have done better with a free header from a corner at the far post.

Sadly, Welling appeared to run out of steam and struggled to create chances and looked ripe to being picked off on the break.

Although he knew little of it, Bassele got on the end of a Beautyman corner but could not guide t past Lewis and the Harriers saw time out after a last desperate effort from Beautyman went out.

Welling United: Henly, Williams, Jefford, Day, Bush, Fyfield, Fazakerley (Bassele 47), Beautyman, Fagan (Hudson 86), Marsh, Healy. Unused substitutes: Turner, Nouble, Corne.
