Bromley dropped two points at Woodside Park last night when they were held 1-1 by lowly Bishop’s Stortford.

The hosts got off to the perfect start by opening the scoring in the fifth minute.

Bromley keeper Seb Brown did well to get down and push a fierce shot from Ryan Melaugh around the post following a penetrating run down the left.

But from the resultant corner, some woeful defending allowed an unmarked Anthony Church to head home from six yards.

Bishop’s Stortford continued to look dangerous and Brown came to the rescue when he denied George Sykes and Melaugh in quick succession midway through the half.

Another Melaugh cross was punched away by the keeper from underneath the bar a few minutes later, with George Allan firing the loose ball over.

In what was Bromley’s first meaningful attack, they levelled the scores in the 41st minute.

Duncan Culley did well to turn his marker and spray a pass out right to Damian Scannell, whose cross was met by the head of Jordan Robertson to guide the ball past David Gregory in the Stortford goal.

The second period continued in similar fashion to the first, with the Hertfordshire side enjoying the better of the exchanges.

But gradually Bromley settled down to create the occasional chance.

Harry Grant was off target around the hour mark following good work from Culley and Robertson, while Gregory kept his side in the game with an excellent diving save from Adam Bailey-Dennis’ header.

Brown did likewise at the other end as he tipped around Sheridan Sellears’ well struck free-kick.

And the Bromley custodian was then quickly off his line to save at the feet of Rod Young after the substitute had broken clear.

The visitors ended the game strongly but were unable to break through a determined Stortford side.

Robertson’s 25 yarder was just the wrong side of the post, while two late chances from Danny Waldren were kept out by Gregory.

The first was a downward header from Grant’s corner, the second a sliding effort which the keeper smothered on the line with almost the last kick of the game.

Next up for the Lillywhites is Saturday’s trip to Grays Athletic in the FA Cup.
