Tyrone Marsh scored deep into injury time to earn Welling United a point at Chester City, the least they deserved.

Jamie Day restored himself to the team and was involved early on when his long ball was just too far ahead of Marsh who needed treatment as Jon Worsnop came out quickly.

Just nine minutes had elapsed when Chester went ahead. A hopeful long shot by Craig Mahon deceived Jon Henly and found its way into the back of the net.

After fifteen further minutes of little goalmouth action Welling came close. Chris Bush was strong in the tackle and strode out before finding Harry Beautyman. The Wings leading scorer passed to Marsh who switched it out to Ben Jefford on the left wing. Jefford then slung over a delightful cross but Marsh was unable to direct his header on target.

Jake Gallagher went on a surging run and the Chester defence split inviting him to shoot, but he hit his effort too cleanly and Worsnop saved comfortably.

Gallagher had another half chance moments later when Marsh and Jon Nouble combined to try and play the Wings' skipper through but he could only stab narrowly wide as Worsnop again advanced smartly.

As the first half came to a close, Gallagher made a crunching tackle on Kingsley James that saw him cautioned. That seemed harsh as James had got away with a similar one earlier on Beautyman but as a result Gallagher will miss Welling's next game.

Neither side made changes at the break as Welling looked to claw their way back.

On the advance, Loui Fazakerley fired beyond the far post before Welling had an escape.

Sean McConville found space on the right hand side of the penalty area but dragged his effort beyond the far post.

Whilst Welling continued to push, Chester created occasional chances on the break and Chris Iwelumo should probably have done better with a header when meeting a Gareth Roberts cross but he failed to hit the target.

Too many hopeful long balls were dealt with easily by the Chester defence as Welling tried to force an opening.

Joe Healy fired wide from distance and Fazakerley blasted well over, but for all their possession, Welling struggled to break down the obstinate Chester defence.

Three minutes into injury time, Welling were rewarded for their endeavours. Bush and Jamal Fyfield went up for a corner and were joned by goalkeeper Henly as Welling threw caution to the wind. Harry Beautyman's deep delivery was headed back across the face of goal by Hudon, and Marsh's clever flick left Worsnop wrong footed.
