After an entertaining first half, Welling and Dartford struggled to match their early efforts in the second period and had to settle for a draw.

Ben Jefford's brilliant cross was flicked on by Harry Beautyman, and maybe a defender to give Jason Brown no chance and Welling the lead in just the fifth minute.

Any hopes Welling had of slowing play down and taking the sting out of the derby atmosphere were dashed when the visitors levelled with their first serious attack of the match.

News Shopper:

Luke Daley played an intelligent ball through and Peter Sweeney (above) smashed home from 12 yards.

That was not the end of the early scoring, however, as only three further minutes had passed when Welling regained the lead.

News Shopper:

Beautyman slung over a deep corner that Jamal Fyfield rose (above) to power a header beyond Brown.

It could have been level again soon after when Sweeney's free kick was met by a firm header by Mat Mitchel-King but Jon Henly made an outstanding diving one handed save.

While Welling had the lion's share of the possession, Dartford had more goalscoring opportunities mainly through free kicks and long throws.

After surviving another dangerous Sweeney free kick, Welling were undone by Mitchel-King's throws.

News Shopper:

Henly made another fantastic save from the one of three consecutive balls launched in but was powerless to stop Elliot Bradbrook's equaliser (above) when the Darts captain fired home after his first effort was blocked.

Aristide Bassele was the first player to be cautioned for an awkward tackle on Tom Bender in first half injury time but nothing came of the free kick.

No changes were made at the break and the second half got off to a scrappy start as both teams rushed their passing and struggled to find the final ball.

After Loui Fazakerley had replaced Bassele for Welling, Dartford had a let off when Jefford's vicious low cross appeared to have been played onto his own post and out for a corner.

Harry Crawford replaced  Tom Bradbrook as the front man tired but clear cut chances were still at a premium.

Tyrone Marsh, a handful throughout, did well to create room for himself and curled in a low shot that Brown did well to scramble out for a corner.

Wings' manager Jamie Day made an attacking move bringing on Jon Nouble for Sam Corne and Tony Burman followed suit replacing Daley with Andy Pugh.

When Beautyman kicked an uncontested drop ball out for a throw, Dartford took exception and players from both sides flew in for some unseemly shoving which ended in bookings for the Wings midfielder and Lee Burns.

Deep into injury time, Chris Bush's throw found Fazakerley but Brown did well to smother at the feet of Joe Healy and the two teams had to settle for a draw.
