Dartford boss Tony Burman believes the spirit his side are showing is the  main reason behind their recent upturn in form.

Two goals in the last 12 minutes saw them overturn Nuneaton’s lead to take all three points, the second time in three matches the Darts have come from behind to win.

Despite picking up some much needed successes recently, the Princes Park boss knows his team are still making life hard for themselves.

Burman said: “At the moment I wish we would not go a goal down, but we are showing a lot of spirit in the side and the squad to be able to come back from a 1-0 deficit.

“In the second half I was pleased with the players, the way they performed and got themselves back in the game.”

The victory over Nuneaton was Dartford’s second in three games, twice as many as they had managed to pick up in their opening 10 matches.

And Burman believes there is more success to come.

He said: “I think the players are just continuing to work hard and they are getting to know one another and it is improving.

“As I say, the spirit is there to be seen and they are very, very close to getting a few more results.”

Dartford signed young defender Tom Bender last week and Burman feels as though the 21-year-old is exactly what his side needs.

He said: “Tom is a left-sided defender and it means there is competition for places now all over the park.

“I am impressed with him.

“He is a young lad and he has got the right pedigree for what we want to bring into the squad.”

Despite the signing and recent upturn in form, Burman is not getting carried away with expectations this season and knows the main aim is to stay in the division.

He said: “You have always got to try and avoid relegation and you have always got to try and get yourselves over 50 points, especially in this league.

“We are not going to say we will do this or do that but hopefully we are building a squad that will be able to cope with the Conference Premier.

“At this moment in time we have only got 12 points, but really I think we could have 18.

“But we just have to see how things go and it’s a long season so let’s see how it all pans out.”

Dartford visit Welling tomorrow, another side who have found some recent form in the league, although Burman does not think it will count for anything on the night.

He said: “I think with local derbies the league and form does not come into it too much.

“We both had good results on Saturday and we will both be trying to win the game.

“Hopefully it is a good game, a good crowd and we just like playing in the local derbies, that is for sure.”
