Jake Gallagher's brace helped Welling United to a confidence boosting victory over a Brentford development eleven.

Rod Young came close early on and Gallagher had a header saved before Brentford created their first opportunity with Lee Butcher saving well from Sadie Miji.

Bees goalkeeper Jack Bonham then made a double save, the second of which was an outstanding one from Charlie Griffin.

Kieron St. Aimie saw Bonham off his line but could not keep his chip under the bar.

Butcher made another good save at the feet of Tyrell Miller-Rodney before St. Aimie had a great chance for the Wings, finding himself clear, he rounded Bonham but was forced so wide that he could only cross and Arron Green was able to hook away.

Substitute Kevin Krans found space two minutes before the break, and although Bonham beat his deflected effort out, Gallagher followed up with a confident finish.

Early in the second half, Fazakerley came close before Gallagher scored again in the 54th minute.

Jamal Fyfield headed Sam Corne's header back into the danger area and the Wings captain made no mistake with a crisp shot.

Both teams had chances. Fazakerley had a shot blocked away foe Welling before Butcher made another outstanding save from Green.

Although Zain Westbrooke and Jermaine Udumaga had opportunities for the Bees, Welling deserved their victory.

Ozzy Adeniji, a trialist having been released by Bristol City like Krans, was thwarted by the legs of Bonham and Barney Williams came close to putting the icing on the cake for the Wings with a twenty-yarder that dipped just after clearing the crossbar.

Jamie Day will now look forward to the difficult decisions in picking his team for the opening day of the league season next Saturday
