Former Millwall striker Gary Alexander has signed for Greenwich Borough - but Edgar Davids will not be joining after being linked with a shock move to the non-league minnows.

Alexander grew up as a Lions fan and spent three years at The Den after joining from Leyton Orient in 2007, scoring a spectacular Wembley goal in the 3-2 League One play-off final defeat at the hands of Scunthorpe in 2009.

Kenny Jackett decided to let him move on to Brentford the following year after the club returned to the Championship and the striker went on to represent Crawley, AFC Wimbledon and Burton before confirming his retirement from the professional game this summer.

But that won’t stop him getting his boots on this season for Southern Counties East League outfit Greenwich Borough, who currently groundshare with Dartford FC at Princes Park and have plans to be in the Conference within five years.

Alexander isn’t the only high profile name to be linked with the non-league side as late last month we reported on ambitious plans to sign ex-Spurs and Juventus favourite Davids.

However, the club have since been informed by the Dutch star following his return from commentating duties at the World Cup this will not now be happening.
