Ebbsfleet manager Steve Brown was delighted with his side's performance as they cruised past Kent rivals Bromley in the FA Trophy at Stonebridge Road on Saturday.

Fleet moved into the first-round proper of the competition with a 4-1 victory over the Skrill South pacesetters. And Brown was pleased to register an impressive scoreline against the league's top scorers.

"I'm delighted with the result," said the Ebbsfleet boss.

"Bromley are a really good side - they're not second in our league and top scorers for no reason. So when you look at the overall 90 minutes it's an unbelievable result for us.

"We've won 4-1, which was perhaps a bit harsh on them. It was the busiest [Fleet 'keeper] Preston Edwards has been all season. But we restricted Bromley to shots from distance."

Brown continued: "At 3-0 we were in control and there was certainly some body language from their players that suggested that they thought the tie was over."

Ebbsfleet won the FA Trophy after a memorable Wembley final in 2008. And as they march into the first round with dreams of repeating the feat six years on, Brown is confident in his team's abilities, particularly at home, regardless of their next opponents in the competition.

"I'm not fussed who we get in the next round. A cup tie is a cup tie. We're difficult to beat here. We've only lost once in all competitions so if we got a home tie we would give anybody a cracking game - you always want to have the home advantage."

He added: "In that dressing room there is a belief, a unity, a togetherness and a work ethic so any team that comes here is going to have to do something special to beat us."

Meanwhile, Bromley boss Mark Goldberg showed his disappointment at falling at the first hurdle, but was able to take some positives from his side's performance.

The Lillywhites dominated the second-half and were the better side for much of the game despite the scoreline suggesting otherwise. And Goldberg admitted the clinical nature of the hosts' attacking play was the difference-maker on the day.

"It was one of those games," he said.

"They had four real clean opportunities and they scored them all. They were clinical and with teams like this, if you give them the opportunities, they'll take advantage of it.

"But I was proud of the way we dominated possession for pretty much the whole of the game. We ran at them, we played some good football, we had a lot of shots on goal and a lot of crosses but we weren't clinical today. We have been recently so we can't really complain.

"But to concede four goals is extremely disappointing and we'll have to look at ourselves and see if we came here a little bit gung-ho."

Goldberg continued: "Maybe we should have sat more and protected our goal a bit more away from home against a side like this and maybe we wouldn't have given them those opportunities."
