After a quiet start, the home side clicked into gear with Bradley Goldberg and Jay May going close after seven minutes, before Goldberg opened the scoring four minutes later with a fine individual goal.

Collecting possession wide on the left, he cut in skipping around three defenders before placing a shot into the top right hand corner.

Bromley might have gone further ahead on 17 minutes as Brendan Kiernan ran 60 yards before crossing to Goldberg, only for visiting keeper Carl Pentney to deny the striker.

Robert Edmans raced clear of the Lillywhites defence but lacked the final touch to beat Joe Welch in the Bromley goal.

And then Daniel Webb shot wildly over the bar after a four-man passing movement had split the Bromley defence as Chelmsford went in search of a leveller.

But those hopes were dashed as Bromley ended the first half with two more goals.

Pierre Joseph-Dubois hit the bar on 43 minutes and although Pentney saved the follow-up shot, Kiernan put May through on goal.

Pentney again made a save with his outstretched leg to keep out May’s attempt, but Goldberg was first to react and volleyed home from ten yards.

Two minutes later it was 3-0 as Kiernan was upended on the edge of the area.

Joe Anderson stepped up to place the resultant free-kick around the defensive wall and into the corner of the net.

The second period commenced with Kiernan being denied by Pentney’s full length diving save before Joseph-Dubois was booked for diving, despite being clearly tripped in the box.

Chelmsford mounted a token gesture with Bagasan Graham narrowly missing the goal with a cross-shot, while the under worked Welch did well to deny Edmans a few moments later.

May and Kiernan again went close before Bromley increased their advantage on 72 minutes.

Danny Waldren sent May away down the right flank, and his cross was met first time by Goldberg for his hat-trick.

The scoring was completed with eight minutes remaining.

A long clearance from Welch hit May on the back to take the ball away from his marker, which left May clear on goal to slip his effort under an exposed Pentney.

May hit the bar late on and had another effort cleared off the line as Bromley picked up their biggest home victory since Boxing Day 2007.
