STEVE Lomas is anticipating a stern test against Ipswich Town on Saturday.

Millwall gained their first win of the season on Tuesday night against AFC Wimbledon in the League Cup and Lomas is keen to build on the victory by securing a first league win.

Ipswich have lost both of their two opening fixtures at Reading and then at Stevenage in one of Tuesday’s cup upsets, but the Millwall manager is predicting a tough encounter at Portman Road this weekend.

Lomas explained: “Ipswich will be like any Mick McCarthy team I have come up against as a player.

“I expect they will be well organised and hard working.”

Although the Millwall boss is eager to bounce back from the opening day defeat to Yeovil, he is not concerned by the fact Millwall are yet to record a league point.

He said: “If you look at the chances we created on Saturday, we could easily be sitting here with two wins.

“If we had scored, we probably would have gone on to win.

“We didn’t and that shows that when we get chances, we have to take them.”

Lomas made a number of changes to his side for the cup match and was impressed with the players who came in.

He explained: “Everybody who played did well.

“It was good for Paul Robinson to be back playing, the game was a big plus for him.

“Nicky Bailey also did well in his 70 minutes.”
