CRAY Wanderers experienced for themselves the current superior strength of German football when they travelled to Neuwied as the London Borough of Bromley's official representatives in a Town-Twinning football challenge match.
FV Engers are the senior football club in the district of Neuwied which is twinned with Bromley.
And the Wands were well beaten by 5-2 by a confident and strong FV Engers team that had finished their regular season with a long run of wins that had secured their local league championship, gaining promotion to the sixth tier of German football.
Chris Saunders and Michael Power (penalty) netted Cray's goals at the attractive Stadion am Wasserturm (Water Tower Stadium),
To continue the good spirit of the Bromley-Neuwied “Freundes Kreis” an invitation has been extended for Engers to visit the Wands for a game in Bromley, perhaps during pre-season 2014-15.
