EBBSFLEET boss Liam Daish has vowed his team will continue to play the right way between now and the end of the season, despite being relegated to the Conference South.

Daish acknowleged Fleet had a responsibility to the other teams in the Conference to fight for each result and added he will pick the strongest team available for both remaining matches.

Fleet fought back to draw 1-1 with Tamworth at Stonebridge Road on Tuesday night, with substitute Liam Enver Marum pulling the home side level after the visitors took the lead through Michael Wylde.

Daish’s men went into the match without a win in seven games.

And despite the gloom of relegation hanging over their heads, they showed character and determination in the second-half to force their way back into the game, an attitude they will display until the end of the season, according to the manager.

Daish said: “I just asked for the lads to play the game in the right spirit, try and win a game of football and show a responsibility to the other teams in the league.

“Teams like Stockport and Gateshead want us to do the best we can. “I’ve been in the situation before when you have to rely on other team’s results and I’ve been let down with managers not turning up on the day and reserves being played and it’s wrong.

“You’ve got to play the game in the right manner and I thought the lads did that and we’ll try and continue doing that on Thursday at Luton and Saturday against Gateshead.”

Fleet created few real goal-scoring opportunities in na scrappy start, registering only one shot on target and finding it hard to break down a Tamworth team fighting for league survival.

The best opportunity of the half came from the visitors, when cultured midfielder Lee Hendrie struck a ferocious effort against the bar from 25 yards.

Fleet were a different side after the break, however, playing with an intensity which refused to give the Lambs an easy time.

But despite an improved performance, it was Tamworth who went in front, the lively Hendrie crossing for Michael Wylde to finish from close range on 72 minutes.

Their lead was not long lived, however, as super sub Enver Marum brought Ebbsfleet level with 10 minutes remaining by latching on to a Stefan Payne pass to slot home from inside the area.

Daish was pleased with the strike.

The manager said: “Our goal may not be playing it out from the back and along the floor like people go on about, but at the end of the day it was a decent ball forward from back to front, a good leap, and a good flick on.

“To me that’s a good goal “At the right times, when we’ve had to do the basics like that this season, we probably haven’t done it enough.

“It’s about doing it over 46 games, whether it’s Liam Enver Marum, Paul Lorraine or Preston Edwards, it’s about having that consistency and putting the desire and effort in over the season.

“If we’d shown that since day one, we probably wouldn’t be in this position.”
