GEMMA Shepherd hopes the Charlton women’s team can make Bayliss Avenue a fortress on their way to winning the Premier League Cup as they prepare to host Lewes on Sunday.

The Addicks need just a point from Lewes to qualify for the second round as group winners after a 3-1 win over Millwall this weekend ensured their safe passage into the next stage.

Shauni Griffiths’ heavily deflected shot put the Lionesses a goal up but Shepherd squared for Jenny Newman to level moments before half-time.

Shepherd then grabbed two late goals to take her season’s tally to 16 goals in eleven games and win the game.

She said: “It’s hard to say whether our home form has been better than our away form because it has been a bit sporadic of late but it will be nice to get back there.

“We want to start making it somewhere teams don’t want to play so hopefully we will do that against Lewes, put another marker down.

“I would love to win a bit of silverware, particularly that because it is a fantastic cup. We have a bit of belief about ourselves in the cup so there is no reason why we can’t do it.”

Entry to the Lewes game on Sunday (kick off 2pm) is free for Charlton Athletic season ticket holders, £4 for adults and £2 children.
