BROMLEY manager Mark Goldberg is positive about his side’s chances ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup first round clash at Fleetwood Town.

The Lillywhites face Football League opposition for the fourth time in seven seasons as they travel to Highbury Stadium and Goldberg is keen to avoid another first round disappointment.

He said: “We are very appreciative that we’re there again but we’ve had three occasions when we’ve got there and had the bitter disappointment of going out in the first round.”

And the Bromley boss led the war cry as he insisted: “We are not ready to get knocked out.

“We are not going to just have a day out, we’re going to try and win and we feel we have enough within the camp to go another step.”

Bromley defeated Maidenhead United 3-2 at Hayes Lane on Tuesday night, racing into a three-goal lead with Danny Waldren firing in the first from the edge of the box before grabbing a deflected second from a set piece.

Richard Pacquette looked to have wrapped things up early in the second half from close range before the visitors pulled two back, but not before they saw a penalty well saved by Bromley keeper Joe Welch.

It was a nervy last 20 minutes for Bromley but Goldberg vowed that pressure will have prepared his side well ahead of Saturday’s cup tie.

He explained: “We got what we probably deserved which was a very difficult last 20 minutes.

“We got three points and learnt some very valuable lessons.

“I’d rather learn those lessons than to paint over cracks or go into Saturday believing we’re better than what we are. “It was very good preparation.

“I went to see Fleetwood against Chesterfield and they are an extremely well organised side. “But we will go into the game well prepared and believing that we can get a result.

“I think judging from tonight if we’re still in the game after 60 minutes, then anything can happen.”

Goldberg emphasised the positive effect the crowd can have on his players as they travel up to Lancashire on Saturday and he gave his personal thanks to the Bromley fans for their vocal support of late.

“A big following always makes a difference,” the boss said.

“It was fabulous tonight because there’s a new crowd behind the goal who are continually on the drums and singing and I would like to thank those fans because they have provided us with support throughout the whole game, they even carried on when we conceded.

“That new group, whoever they are, I would like to thank them, and I hope we can do them proud, as well as our long standing supporters who are travelling to Fleetwood.

“We just want to make them proud.”
