Welling United 3-0 Fisher Athletic
THE Wings recorded back-to-back league wins on Bank Holiday Monday to continue their flying start to the season and hammer even more misery on Fisher.
Ryan Martin grabbed his fifth goal of the season before Charlie Sheringham scored either side of half-time to secure three more points for the hosts.
Welling's assistant manager Jimmy Dack was content with the performance and expressed his delight after collecting six points in 48 hours.
He said: "When we play with a tempo, we look a very good side but when teams slow the game up, we've got to get going again.
"We picked up a few injuries on Saturday and the boys looked very tired out there, but you can't moan with six points out of six and I'm delighted."
Dack heaped praise on the strike partnership of Joe Healy and Sheringham and believes there is lots more to come from both.
"They are very good players," he added. "The movement in them is phenomenal and I'd like to see them get 15 or 20 goals each."
Welling do have injury concerns after Tony Sinclair was stretchered off after just 10 minutes, but Dack had some good news on the players who sustained knocks at Thurrock on Saturday.
He said: "Graeme Andrews had a dead leg but he should be back for the next game and Joe Healy turned his ankle over but managed to get out there and play today even though he wasn't fully fit."
Dack had positive news about long-term absentee Orlando Smith and was also hopeful Sonny Cobbs would return in the near future after pulling a hamstring on Saturday.
He said: "Orlando has just had an X-ray and we are waiting for the results on either Monday or Tuesday, so we will know a bit more then, but we want to get him back playing now. Sonny will be back in a week or two."
Dack also clarified Welling's position on Ross Lover, who has yet to be seen in a Wings shirt since making his debut in the pre-season game against Charlton.
The midfielder was poised to return to former club Cray Wanderers, but the move has yet to come to fruition and Lover's whereabouts remains a mystery.
However, Dack was happy to confirm Lover was no longer at Park View Road and questioned the player's attitude.
He said: "Ross has moved on now we've just got to draw a line under it. He didn't want to be a part of this and I can't understand the lad.
"Ross signed his contract, played half a game against Charlton and decided it wasn't for him.
"We can't understand why and we've got no reason. There was no falling out so we just don't understand it really."
Welling's opener against Fisher came on 22 minutes when Sheringham found Martin on the edge of the area, who unleashed an unstoppable effort into the top corner.
The advantage was doubled 15 minutes later after Ellis Green won a dubious penalty for the hosts and Sheringham stepped up to convert past Simon Overland into the bottom corner.
Fisher provided a constant threat to a weakened Welling defence with the pace of their attacking players, but their sloppy defending meant the game was over as a contest 10 minutes into the second half when the Wings scored their third.
Lee Blackburn picked out Sheringham with a perfectly-weighted diagonal pass and the striker stole in behind the Fisher left-back to slide home his second under the watchful eye of dad Teddy, who was in the Park View Road stands.
Victory ensures Welling remain third in the table, two points behind leaders AFC Wimbledon.
The Wings travel to Hayes & Yeading on Saturday before returning to Park View Road on September 6 to face Dorchester Town.
