Ford: Wings one win from safety
Action from Saturday's 0-0 draw with St Albans
Action from Saturday's 0-0 draw with St Albans

ANDY Ford believes a win against Sutton United should be enough to secure Blue Square South safety for his Welling United side.

The Wings currently sit in 16th place, six points clear of the relegation zone, and with only three games remaining Ford knows a win at Sutton this Saturday could prove invaluable.

As a result of last Saturday's hard-fought point after a 0-0 stalemate with fellow-strugglers St Albans, Welling are now within touching distance of safety.

The manager said: "I would've taken a point before the game.

"The performance wasn't brilliant but at this stage in the season, points are more important than the performance."

Welling's next opponents are rooted to the bottom of the table and already know they will be plying their trade outside of the Blue Square South next season.

Despite this, Wings manager Ford knows it won't be an easy game.

He said: "They haven't had a good run, but they've got a new manager in and his enthusiasm will kick-start the club and we have to be aware of this.

"Another three points will probably be enough to keep us up."

Welling are fortunate to only have a couple of injury concerns for Saturday's match with Ellis Green sidelined as a result of a dental problem, while Daniel Nwanze is also unavailable through suspension.

New signing Tony Boot faces a race against time in order to feature before the end of the campaign, with Ford adding: "It'll be very close.

"He's keeping us informed but there's a chance he could make the last game at Havant & Waterlooville."
