ANDY Ford believes it is the points which matter at this stage of the season, not how his Welling team are performing.
The Wings picked up a vital three points at the weekend with a 2-1 win against rival relegation candidates Weston-super-Mare and Ford feels this is good ground to build on.
He said: "Any win gives you confidence and at this stage of the season, picking up the three points can only give you a boost.
"The team morale has been lifted with the victory and we're now looking towards Wednesday's game at Newport County with encouragement.
"There's room for improvement, but at the moment the important thing isn't how we play but getting the three points."
Ford made two signings ahead of Saturday's victory by drafting in goalkeeper Steve Williams and midfielder Daniel Nwanze.
Williams was brought in on a temporary basis to cover for the suspended Jamie Turner and Nwanze has been introduced from Walton & Hersham to bolster the midfield.
Ford said: "Williams played a vital role in the weekend's win, creating a goal and making an important save at the end of the game.
"He has been recalled by his club Sittingbourne, though, and unfortunately the Newport game will be his last, leaving me with the task to find another goalkeeper for Saturday's fixture with Braintree.
"Nwanze is a big, strong central midfielder who has been brought in to make some tough challenges, to boss the midfield and hopefully get on the end of crosses at both ends of the field."
Ford is aware there is going to be a tough relegation battle with other teams at the wrong end of the table.
The Wings have a lot of difficult fixtures ahead of them in the next few weeks, but the manager is confident his team can pull through.
He said: "We've got a tough couple of games away from home in the next two fixtures against teams who are pushing for play-off places.
"We need to reflect on our last result against Weston-super-Mare and try and produce a performance which will get us another victory.
"There is no getting away from the fact we're in a battle with St. Albans City and hopefully they'll slip up along the way so we can guarantee safety."
