Ebbsfleet boss happy with endeavour
LIAM Daish has praised the hard work of his squad as the hectic end to their Conference campaign finally reaches its conclusion on Saturday.
Ebbsfleet have already played eight league games in April and sign off the season on Saturday with a ninth at home to Oxford United.
The latest episode of the April marathon came in last night's 2-2 draw at Forest Green Rovers.
Ebbsfleet came from behind to cancel out Alex Lawless' 36th minute opener for the hosts with strikes either side of half-time from Luke Moore and Stacy Long.
However, they were cruelly denied all three points when Jonathan Swift grabbed a dramatic last minute leveller for Forest Green to ensure both sides shared the spoils.
Despite the disappointment, Daish said there were still plenty of positives to take from the game.
He explained: "It did feel a bit like we had lost in the dressing room afterwards, but we came from a goal down to lead and their equaliser was a great goal.
"We shouldn't be too down on ourselves by any means because a lot of effort has been put in by the squad in the past month and they deserve great credit.
"They have all worked very hard and came very close to getting a win at Forest Green, a side who have been on the fringes of the play-offs, like ourselves, for most of the season."
Ebbsfleet face Oxford at Stonebridge Road this weekend, but Daish denied the suggestion it was a chance for his squad to impress one last time before the Trophy final on May 10.
He said: "I wouldn't look at it in those terms because I know my squad now and wouldn't base a decision like that on what happens in one game.
"Oxford have had some good results lately and I should imagine they will be right up there next season."
Ebbsfleet have no injury or suspension worries for the game.
Meanwhile, Daish has also denied a national newspaper story linking John Akinde with Charlton and Southampton.
He said: "I wasn't aware of it and John is under contract here."
