Fleet hit seven
Horley Town 1-7 Ebbsfleet United
EBBSFLEET United Ladies made a strong charge towards the finish line with a fantastic team performance away at Horley Town on Sunday.
Fleet began with confidence and after only five minutes midfielder Jules Teague gave them the lead, finishing clinically following a defence-splitting pass from midfielder Lorraine Grinyer.
Horley Town hit back almost immediately when they capitalised on an unusual lack of concentration from Fleet as the defence was slow to organise themselves after a stoppage in play and a shot was chipped over keeper Faye Baker.
This briefly unsettled the visitors and it took until the half hour mark before they regained their composure and the lead.
Inevitably it was captain Kelly Philpott with a spectacular scissor kick which put them back on track.
Then the game changed and chances and opportunities began to flow.
Philpott got through one-on-one two minutes later with the keeper and there was only going to be one conclusion as the Fleet raced 3-1 ahead at half-time.
Fleet raised their game in the second half and played some great passing football.
This was rewarded on 63 minutes when a pinpoint cross from Emily Wells was met at the far post with a header from Teague.
Teague completed her hat-trick with 15 minutes to go, coolly slotting home past the advancing keeper.
The teenage terror had not finished tormenting a tiring Horley back four and on 86 minutes, she hit a spectacular long-range shot into the top corner for her fourth.
There was still time for striker Kelly Campbell to get herself on the score sheet and to add a seventh almost on the whistle and complete the rout.
Victory pushes Ebbsfleet Ladies into third place and added to the vital goal difference as a bonus.
This weekend sees the Fleet travel to leaders Littlehampton, although the third-placed side have games in hand on their opponents.
