Stacy Long (above) struck to put the Fleet in front but Forest Green fought back to earn a point

Forest Green Rovers 2-2 Ebbsfleet United

THE Fleet are still on course for a top seven finish, but could have been in a stronger position come next Saturday had they held out for the full three points in Gloucestershire last night.

A 25-yard drive from Stacy Long in the 69th minute put the Fleet in front as Liam Daish's men sought to overtake their opponents in the top half of the Blue Square Premier table.

But it was Rovers who opened the scoring on 36 minutes when Alex Lawless converted a free-kick with an accurate low drive past Lance Cronin.

The Fleet weren't behind for long and Luke Moore continued his recent good spell with a goal on 42 minutes, coolly tucking a shot past Terry Burton.

Long's excellent effort, which flew into the top corner of the net, looked to have rewarded the Fleet for another professional performance.

But with a minute left, Jonathan Smith supplied yet another noteworthy long-range effort to send the Forest Green supporters home happy and rescue a point which keeps Rovers a point and a place above the Fleet with one game left.

Ebbsfleet United: Cronin, Hawkins, Smith, McCarthy, Opinel, McPhee, Barrett, Bostwick, Long (Hearn 80), Moore (Ricketts 76), Akinde (Eribenne 63). Subs not used: MacDonald, Mott. Att: 822.
