Burman hopes goal power will pay off

DARTFORD manager Tony Burman saw his team score their 100th league goal last Saturday and believes it could prove to be pivotal in their bid to be crowned champions.

Burman was unhappy with the display of his team during the 2-2 draw at Potters Bar Town, but applauded the creativity and character of his players.

He said: "I was disappointed with the overall performance and the fact we didn't pick up three points.

"Getting a point after being 2-0 down with eight minutes to go was valuable for us though.

"We made it difficult for ourselves conceding the early goal and as a result, had to chase the game. We made a lot of chances though, so I don't want to be too critical as at the end of the game we scored our 100th goal of the season."

The Darts are currently top of the league with only three games remaining and were given a boost on Tuesday evening with second-placed AFC Sudbury losing 2-0 at home to Canvey Island.

Despite this, Burman is taking nothing for granted and has challenged his team to finish the season in style by winning all of their remaining games, starting with relegation-threatened Tilbury this weekend.

He said: "We want to win all three games and we'll aim high. Getting three points on Saturday will be very important and this is what we are aiming for.

"It'll be a massive blow for other teams around us if we got three points on Saturday, but it'll be a massive boost for us.

"Sudbury are dangling the carrot but we've got three games and we want to win them all.

"It'll be a difficult game against Tilbury with them facing relegation, but we've got to do the business, no ifs or buts."

Dartford's goal difference is superior to their main promotion rivals and Burman feels it will give them an added advantage during the run-in.

He explained: "Goal difference will be vital. We're in front of most teams around us and we've always wanted to score goals.

"The 100th goal on Saturday could be a defining moment of our season."

Fortunately for the Darts, they have no injury worries and subsequently Burman is in the rare position of being able to choose from a full squad.
