TONY Burman says keeper Tony Kessell redeemed himself with last night's penalty save at Wivenhoe.

Kessell was at fault for Maldon's injury-time equaliser in Saturday's 2-2 draw, but produced a fine stop against Wivenhoe with the Darts already 3-0 up.

The manager said: "Tony made a bit of a howler against Maldon, but he certainly made up for it last night.

"He was absolutely devastated after the game on Saturday and I know there were some supporters who gave him some criticism.

"Tony was excellent against Wivenhoe and it is typical of life for any goalkeeper because they are the last line of defence and every mistake they do make is highlighted."

Second half strikes from Adam Flannigan, Jay May and Steve Norman wrapped up the victory last night and Burman was pleased with the outcome.

He explained: "We have to go to places like Wivenhoe and even though they are not one of the strongest sides in the division, we still have to beat them.

"I said to the players before the game we could have done better on Saturday against Maldon.

"We came in 0-0 at the break, even though we should have been ahead, but the players stayed patient and got the goals they deserved."

Dartford are on the road again on Saturday when they travel to Ware and Burman admits the opposition are not a side he is too familiar with.

He said: "I don't know anything about them at the moment, but I hope to be up to speed by Saturday.

"We played there a couple of years ago and there is a slope on the pitch, so we know it is going to be tough."

The Darts complete a busy Bank Holiday weekend on Monday with a home meeting against Aveley at Princes Park.

Burman added: "I saw them beat Great Wakering 1-0 on Monday and they weren't bad.

"I expect they will raise their game at Princes Park, but this is something which will happen this season and we have to learn to deal with it."

Eddie McClements and Ryan Hayes remain on the sidelines for the double header, but Burman has no other injury concerns for the weekend's fixtures.
