Ross Lover played a key role again as the Wands gained three more points on Tuesday night at Ashford Town.
Ashford Town 0 Cray Wanderers 2, Ryman Division One South, Tuesday 4.3.08, Cray gained three valuable points in their promotion hunt, on a chilly night in Kent.
Michael Power gave Cray the lead after 36 minutes.
Ross Lover, who had hit the post with a first half effort, netted Cray's second goal to wrap up the victory with six minutes remaining.
Cray remain in third place, now just one point behind Tooting having played the same number of games. Top-of-the-table Dover remain a long way in front, and still look favourites for the one automatic promotion place.
The teams finishing second to fifth will play off at the end of the season to gain the second promotion slot. Finishing second will guarantee home advantage in the play-offs, and Cray will be eager to at least overtake Tooting and finish second.
Cray are next in action on Sunday 9 March at home to Walton & Hersham (3pm).
