Salako declines Bromley opportunity
Exclusive By Paul Green

JOHN Salako has ruled himself out of becoming a first team coach at Bromley FC following Mark Goldberg's return as manager at Hayes Lane.

The former Crystal Palace and Charlton midfielder confirmed to News Shopper he had been asked by Goldberg to become involved with the Lillywhites' first team, but his role as a media pundit with Sky ensured he declined the offer.

Salako said: "I spoke to Mark about a few things, including the possibility of becoming a coach at Bromley.

"I am interested in coaching but told Mark it would be very difficult for me to get involved because my job with Sky takes up quite a lot of my time. I can't see it happening to be honest."

Goldberg confirmed he had held discussions with Salako and fully understood his reasons for carrying on his media work with Sky.

The Bromley boss said: "I think it is fair to say John was never really going to take a full-time role here.

"It would have been a great chance for him to get some coaching experience with a non-league club.

"John and Bromley could both have benefited if he decided to start his career in coaching here as I feel he will make an excellent coach.

"I do understand his reasons because he has other commitments and you have to respect that."
