DARTFORD assistant boss Paul Sawyer insists the Princes Park side can cause an upset when they host league leaders Luton Town this Saturday.

The visitors have already sold out their 1,500 allocation for the match and Sawyer believes the signs of recovery are there after a recent upturn in fortunes for the Darts to avoid the drop.

“Luton is going to be really, really tough,” Sawyer said.

“They’re up there for a reason and they’re signing players again this week.

“It’s going to be very tough, but we go into the game believing we can get something out of it.

“They’re a very good team, John Still’s teams are always very organised.

“It’s going to be a tough game but when teams are on good runs, you know those runs will come to an end at some stage.”

He added: “Cambridge have been on a great run, we took a point from them on Saturday and they lost last night.

“Things can change very quickly.

“The teams at the top are under a different sort of pressure than what we are under.

“They are still under pressure as well.

“We go into the Luton game with plenty of belief and hopefully we can get a result.”

Last weekend Dartford ended a three-month winless run with a 2-1 victory against play-off hopefuls Kidderminster.

And Sawyer believes the side can still claw their way out of the relegation zone.

He said: “We’ve got to believe, there are still plenty of points to play for.

“All we can do is take each game as it comes along each week and try to get the three points out of each game.

“We’ve closed that gap a little bit in the last couple of weeks, we’ve got to believe we can carry on and close that gap.”

Sawyer explained: “We haven’t been playing badly for a long time, we’ve been losing by the odd goal.

“We felt something is going to turn our way eventually if we kept on believing, thankfully that happened up at Kidderminster.

“We played really well, to get a win up there has given everybody a bit of belief we can get a result and we followed that on Saturday where you could see the extra belief in the lads.”

As transfer deadline day approaches, Sawyer said he and manager Tony Burman aren’t actively looking for further additions, but if the right player is available then they will consider adding.

He added: “We are always on the lookout.

“If anybody becomes available we would show an interest as long as it’s going to strengthen the squad.”

Alex Wall and Jim Stevenson are both ineligible to play against their parent club Luton this weekend, but Cambridge United loanees Andy Pugh Back and Rory McAuley are back after sitting out the 3-3 draw against their contracted club.
