George Saville salvaged Millwall a point but their run of away wins came to an end with a 2-2 draw with Ipswich at Portman Road.

Jake Cooper had given the Lions a first-half lead, but Martyn Waghorn struck twice to put the home side in front.

Saville slammed home his tenth league goal of the season to earn a share of the spoils.

No club record but the unbeaten run goes on

Millwall missed out on a club record seventh consecutive away league victory, but Saville’s 58th-minute strike at least earned his side a point to keep their unbeaten run going.

After a 2-0 win at Barnsley just over two weeks ago, the Lions travelled to Portman Road knowing a victory would set a new club record for successive away wins.

Neil Harris’ side were unable to break that record and only managed to match their six-game winning run they set in League One back in 2009, when the Lions boss was still playing for the club.

Double figures for Saville

After a 13-game run without a goal and a dip in form throughout January and February, Saville has scored three times in his last five games.

His strike against Ipswich brought up ten for the season, meaning he is the first Millwall midfielder to reach that milestone since Tim Cahill in the 2003/2004 campaign.

The Lions remain unbeaten this season when Saville has found the net.

Millwall miss the chance to climb into the top six

If Millwall had converted one of the many late chances they had on Monday, they would have moved into the play-off places for the first time this season.

Middlesbrough, Preston, Sheffield United and Bristol City all failed to win over the Easter period, giving the Lions the opportunity to move up to sixth, but they missed the chance after squandering a one-goal lead against the Tractor Boys.

Cooper goes from hero to villain

The 23-year-old has been one of Millwall’s most consistent performers since breaking into the side after Byron Webster’s injury at the beginning of the season.

Cooper’s fine campaign continued as he netted for the first time since Boxing Day to give the Lions the lead, but that’s as good as it got for the former Reading man.

Minutes after Waghorn got Ipswich back on level terms, Cooper attempted a back-pass to Jordan Archer, but sold his goalkeeper short and Waghorn took advantage to put Ipswich ahead.

Missed opportunities could prove costly

Lee Gregory, Mahlon Romeo and Jed Wallace were all guilty of missing chances to put Millwall ahead late in the game - and those two dropped points could perhaps come back to bite the Lions come May.

Gregory missed the best of those chances. Millwall’s joint top scorer played a fine one-two with Wallace but was unable to beat the impressive Bartosz Bialkowski from close-range, before Aiden O’Brien struck a post from the rebound.
