Jordan Archer believes Millwall are proving the doubters wrong – by showing they belong in the Championship.

The Lions were one of the bookmakers’ favourites to make an instant return to League One at the start of the season.

But Neil Harris’ side are 13th and closer to the top six than the relegation zone.

Millwall goalkeeper Archer, who has kept 11 clean sheets this term, told News Shopper: “We had a point to prove, everyone wrote us off.

“We just had to come out and show them we’re a club that deserve to be in this division. We’ve done that with some of our performances.

“Not many teams have come to our home ground and taken points off us. We’re a very tough team to play against.”

Millwall are on a seven-game unbeaten league run – and they have humbled former Premier League clubs Reading, Birmingham and Leeds since the turn of the year.

Despite Harris playing down their chances of a late play-off push, the Lions are nine points from the top six.

Archer added: “At the start of the season, we were heavy favourites to go down. But it’s testament to the boys and testament to the staff and manager.

“There have only been a couple games this season when we’ve been outplayed. If anything, I think we could’ve been a bit higher up [in the table].

“We’re not going to get too carried away, football is a funny game, so we could easily be dragged into the bottom three.

“But at the same time, you never know, the teams above us could drop points as well. We’ll take it game by game and see where we finish.”
