Two goals in as many first-half minutes set Millwall on their way to their first Championship victory since gaining promotion.

First-half goals from Lee Gregory, George Saville and Jed Wallace put the Lions in complete control before Shaun Hutchinson added a late fourth to seal the win.

Here are five things we learned...

The complete performance

Millwall have dominated all four of their league games so far, but could only muster up two points for their efforts. Today was a different story, though. Despite conceding a few first-half chances, Neil Harris’ side were ruthless in front of goal and from the minute Gregory bagged the opener, the result was never in doubt.

Gregory is finally off the mark

Millwall’s number nine celebrated his 29th birthday in the perfect way as he netted his first goal of the season. He looked much more dangerous in front of goal than he has done in his previous four games this season. He played a huge part in Millwall’s second.

The goal gave the Lions some much-needed confidence and that became evident just before the break when he nearly doubled his tally with an audacious acrobatic effort.

Jordan Archer silences the doubters

Boosted by receiving his first call-up from the Scotland national team, Archer was in fine form against Norwich. The goalkeeper has been under pressure in recent weeks after his error for Ipswich’s first goal in the 4-3 home defeat.

He made a sharp stop to deny Wes Hoolahan early on and that set the tone for his impressive afternoon. Further saves from Nelson Oliveira and Josh Murphy earned him his second consecutive clean sheet and ensured that he goes into the international break on a high.

Summer signings look at home

Four of Harris’ signings started against Norwich, as they have done in all of Millwall’s league games this term. Saville, arguably Millwall’s player of the season so far produced another energetic display, capped by a superb 17th minute goal from just inside the box.

Full-backs James Meredith and Conor McLaughlin have not only bolstered Millwall defensively, but given them an extra dimension in the final third. As for Wallace, he terrorised the Norwich defence, proving he can be one of the most dangerous players in the Championship when he is on top of his game.

Aiden O’Brien and Wallace are frightening

These two once again proved the catalyst to Millwall’s stunning display. O’Brien claimed the man-of-the-match award, but in truth, it could have been one of five or six Millwall players, one of them being Wallace.

Both played a part in the Lions’ second goal, with Wallace finding Gregory, who found O’Brien to tee up Saville, who stroked home.

When Wallace runs at defenders he is unstoppable and that is exactly what he did for Millwall’s second to devastating effect. O’Brien should have joined him on the scoresheet, but struck the bar from McLaughlin’s pull-back just after the break.
