Neil Harris was convinced that Millwall’s first league win of the season was not far away after his side thrashed Norwich City 4-0 at The Den.

First-half goals from Lee Gregory, George Saville and a fine individual effort from Jed Wallace gave the Lions a 3-0 lead at the break, with Shaun Hutchinson adding a fourth to put the gloss on the score line.

Harris said: “I promised my players last week it was coming. After 0-0 at Bristol City last week, I delighted with the game management and the character we showed on the back of throwing away three points against Ipswich.

“I said to the boys, that has got to be us this year, at this level you have got to manage games, you must be in the game all the time and I said I promise you, I gave them my word, if we do, results will come.”

Millwall had thrown away leads in both of their opening two league homes games and Harris was delighted with his players’ efforts against the Canaries.

He added: “That clearly does not make a season, beating Norwich 4-0 at home, but, it’s another small step in the right direction.

“Today I asked the players for everything. I asked for a clean-sheet mentality, an aggressive Millwall performance without the ball and a ruthlessness about us and again my players have delivered and I am proud of them today.”

The Lions have moved up to 17th in the Championship and Harris thinks that this result will not come as a surprise to teams Millwall have already faced this term.

Harris said: “People know we have played well in games and managers have commented after games and feel like they have got away with the result. We will win a lot of games this year because we scare the life out of teams.

“It is nice for people to say it, but to put in a performance and get a result, it will not surprise some, some teams we have plated against, that won’t surprise them. But, it might make the rest of the league take note.”
