Neil Harris says the step-up from League One to the Championship is the reason for Millwall's slow start.

The Lions dominated their season opener against Nottingham Forest, but lost the game thanks to a Billy McKay wonder strike.

And on Saturday, it was a similar story when Filipe Morais’ stunning free-kick cancelled out George Saville's 49th-minute opener.

Lions boss Harris said: “I think that [the step-up] probably sums it up pretty well. We have not given many chances away over the course of the two games.

“Adam Le Fondre had a header in the second-half at one-nil and should probably hit the target, but other than that we have not given away any chances in two games and we find ourselves with one point.

“That is the quality at this level and the league above. One attempt given away in 180 minutes of football is phenomenal by my team and we have conceded two goals. One great free-kick and last Friday a 25-yard screamer off the post and in.”

Millwall have won just one point out of a possible six in the Championship, despite creating numerous chances.

And Harris wants his side to be more clinical, starting against Ipswich on Tuesday evening.

He added: “We must ensure we are disciplined and do not give chances away at all, from anywhere on the pitch.

“But if we are not going to keep a clean sheet because we are undone by moments of magic then we have to make sure we are more clinical.

“We played some really good football against Bolton, more so up at Forest, we played better, but we have got some quality in our team and have got some good players.

“We have got the ability to be able to play and we have also got the ability to be able to mix it up.”
