Neil Harris has backed Lee Gregory to bang in the goals after missing a sitter against Nottingham Forest.

Gregory wasted two good opportunities to put Millwall in front at the City Ground, before Barrie McKay scored the game’s only goal.

The prolific forward had the chance to bring the Lions level in the 51st minute when Steve Morison intercepted Forest goalkeeper Jordan Smith’s throw, and squared the ball to his strike partner, who missed an open goal.

But it wasn’t just Gregory’s wastefulness in front of goal that cost Millwall - Morison, George Saville, Jed Wallace, Aiden O’Brien and Fred Onyedinma were left frustrated, too.

And Millwall boss Harris has leapt to the defence of Gregory, who scored 18 times last season.

Harris told News Shopper: “He’ll be gutted - he’s a goalscorer. He’s made his living in the game to get to where he is by scoring goals.

“He will score goals at this level. Against Forest, he’s proven that he’ll get the chances.

“Steve put one in the net that was disallowed, Aiden should’ve scored in the first-half, George could've had a couple, Jed had two good chances and should've scored and Fred’s header at the end.

“It’s a team game, everybody has had an opportunity [to score] and it will come.”
