Millwall were made to pay for their sloppiness in front of goal as Barrie McKay’s wonder strike was enough to sink Neil Harris’ men.

Lee Gregory, Steve Morison, George Saville and Jed Wallace were guilty of missing golden opportunities.

The Lions will feel aggrieved not to come away with even a point, but will be encouraged by the dominant display.

Here is how News Shopper rated Millwall’s players…

Jordan Archer - 6 - Didn't have too much to do on his Championship debut. Commanded his box well.

Conor McLaughlin - 5 - Failed to get forward too often, but when he did, his cross was headed over by O’Brien, who should've scored. Could’ve closed down McKay sooner for the opening goal.

Shaun Hutchinson - 6 - Has Championship experience and looked like a good, tight unit with Cooper alongside him.

Jake Cooper - 8 - The surprise inclusion having only signed last week, but the big defender kept Forest’s £2m summer signing Daryl Murphy quiet. He was a huge threat in the opposition’s box, too.

James Meredith - 6 - A solid Lions debut for the Aussie. Attacked and defended well.

Jed Wallace - 7 - Caused Armand Traore all kinds of problems throughout the game. He’ll be a big player for Millwall this season.

Shaun Williams - 6 - Kept things ticking, like he always does and rarely gave the ball away.

George Saville - 7 - He played in a more advanced position than Williams, and pressed Forest’s back-line with Gregory and Morison. His never-ending energy helped the team.

Aiden O’Brien - 5 - Quiet game by his standards and was subbed off in the second-half.

Lee Gregory - 6 - Worked hard, but wasted three very good chances in the first-half, which ultimately cost the Lions. Somehow failed to score with the keeper away from his goal in the 51st minute.

Steve Morison - 8 - Very, very unlucky to see his close-range volley hit the bar. Bullied Forest’s two centre-backs and linked up well with Gregory. Millwall’s man of the match.
