Steve Morison wants Millwall fans to make The Den a fortress in the Championship next season.

Morison’s 85th-minute Wembley winner promoted Millwall to England’s second tier on Saturday.

The Lions won 12 home games in their first season back in the Championship following promotion in 2010.

And Morison, 33, knows how important their form at The Den is going to be this time around.

He said: “If you get 14 or 15,000 fans there, it’s a brilliant place to play and it’s not nice for other teams.

“As you’ve seen this season, when you have a half-empty Den on a Tuesday or Wednesday night it’s difficult for us.

“The fans have got something to look forward to now in the Championship. Sunderland, Aston Villa and Leeds are massive teams. Every team is huge, even Sheffield United and Bolton who went up with us.

“It’s going to be a massive task. I’d take fourth from bottom right now. We’ll work very, very hard after the summer and it’ll be nice to see how some of these lads cope next year. They’re going to have to develop even more.”

Morison returned to Millwall for a third spell in 2015, after the club brought him back from Leeds for an undisclosed fee.

He has been nothing short of sensational for the Lions, scoring 38 goals in two League One seasons.

The Wales striker added: “I’ve scored at Wembley a few times, I scored for Stevenage, but managed to top that with Millwall on Saturday.

“Leeds didn’t want me, I had a contract, but it wasn’t a sacrifice to come back to Millwall. I wanted to come back here and play for Neil Harris and Millwall Football Club.

“I actually saw him on holiday as I do every year in Portugal, we go to the same place.

“He wanted me back here, I wanted to come back, I really enjoy playing here. The last two years have been special.”
