West Ham are interested in signing Millwall defender Mahlon Romeo in a £2m move, according to reports.

The 20-year-old broke into the Lions’ first-team last season and has flourished for Neil Harris’ side.

Romeo was an influential force in Millwall’s play-off run which took the club to Wembley before they were beaten 3-1 by Barnsley.

The right-back has now notched up 24 league appearances for the South Londoners and is starting to attract attention from other clubs.

A report in the Sun says Slaven Bilic’s West Ham are keen on a deal for Romeo, and are willing to pay £2m for his services.

Romeo has proven to be a dependable player for 39-year-old boss Neil Harris, although an error almost cost Millwall a point against Bradford at the weekend.

The young defender failed to clear his lines in injury-time with the score 1-1, instead hoofing a clearance to a Bradford player.

Experienced midfielder Nicky Law ended up with the ball in the box, but Romeo’s blushes were saved as Jordan Archer superbly tipped the shot onto the post.
