Aiden O’Brien wants to build on his performances last season and score 15 goals during the 2016/17 campaign.

The 22-year-old played over 50 games as the Lions reached the League One play-off final.

O’Brien opened his account in Millwall’s opening-day win over Oldham Athletic on Saturday, and also found the back of the net against Barnet in the EFL Cup.

He said: “I got 13 last year, I want to get 15 this year and if I reach that before the end of the season then I’ll push on to 20.

“But 15 is my target so if I get that I’ll be delighted.”

Millwall scored 73 goals last season and bolstered their attacking options during the summer with the signings of midfield duo David Worrall and Gregg Wylde.

O’Brien, a former Republic of Ireland U21 international, believes the new arrivals will have a significant impact at the Den.

“They are great lads. Everyone of them is great to be around and they fit in so well,” O’Brien said.

“They’re going to have a massive impact on our season.”

Ex-Southend United star Worrall received high praise from Neil Harris for his performance against Oldham, and O’Brien has been equally impressed by the 26-year-old.

O’Brien added: “He brings energy to the team, although I’m not so sure about his finishing if you saw Brentford.

“But he’s a great chap and brings energy and quality down that wing so he’s a great addition to the squad.”

O’Brien, who scored either side of Lee Gregory and Byron Webster in the 3-0 win over Oldham, is not flustered by the added competition in SE16.

“That’s always a good thing for the players and the staff,” he said.

“You’d rather have four good strikers battling each other instead of just the one who won’t be having any competition.

“We’ve got a good connection so we’re going to push each other.”
