Neil Harris felt David Worrall showed Millwall fans what he is capable of during the emphatic 3-0 victory over Oldham Athletic.

Goals from Lee Gregory and Aiden O’Brien gave the Lions a comfortable 2-0 lead at half-time.

Defender Byron Webster made it three just after the break to complete a comfortable afternoon.

Two of the goals came from Worrall’s corners and Harris was delighted with the summer signing’s impact.

He said: “I thought David was excellent. His energy levels are great and he’s linked with Mahlon [Romeo] really well over the course of pre-season.

“He’s showed every Millwall fan here today what you get from him - 100 per cent effort, real desire and a no fear attitude. He’s a good footballer as well.”

When asked by News Shopper whether it could be a big season for Worrall, Harris said: “Yeah, it could be a big season for everyone though.

“I’ve watched David a lot over the last few years and we’re trying to sign players who epitomise what our supporters want to see.

“The first thing they want to see is effort and hunger – he certainly fits the bill with that and he’s got quality on the ball.”

Gregory, who netted 27 goals last season, opened his account for the 2016/17 campaign with a penalty after Ben Thompson was clipped in the box.

Harris’ side continued to apply pressure but had to wait until injury-time to double their lead as O’Brien slotted home from a corner.

Another Worrall delivery led to Millwall’s third in the second-half – this time Webster was on hand to beat Connor Ripley from close-range.

Harris was delighted with the victory although he admitted his side took their foot off the gas after building the 3-0 lead.

He said: “I’m delighted with the three points and the performance for the first 50 minutes. After that we took our foot off the pedal – I thought our decision-making was poor and we could have scored more goals.

“But it’s great to get off the mark with three points – everyone has that nervous anticipation so to be as professional as that was pleasing.

“We were exceptional at times, certainly in the first-half. Our movement and forward running was outstanding, and we were clinical.”
