Neil Smith insisted there were more positives than negatives to come out of Bromley’s narrow defeat against Millwall on Saturday.

The Lions bagged a 2-1 pre-season victory at Hayes Lane as Fred Onyedinma and Lee Gregory scored either side of a Tobi Sho-Silva strike.

The result came just four days after Smith’s side sealed a surprise win over Charlton and the boss is pleased with how his side are taking shape ahead of the 2016/17 season.

He said: “The boys have worked hard again – this was always going to be a step up, Millwall brought a strong side down but we coped well.

“They were two soft goals but overall I’m really pleased with the boys, we created chances.

“There were certainly a lot more positives than negatives.”

Plumstead-born forward Onyedinma headed home David Worrall’s cross on four minutes to give Millwall an early lead.

But National League side Bromley equaliser when former Charlton prospect Sho-Silva rounded David Forde and finished from a tight angle.

The hosts’ joy did not last long, however, as just two minutes later Ben Thompson set up Lee Gregory and the in-form striker produced a clinical finish to beat Alan Julian.

Despite creating chances after the break, Neil Harris’ team held firm to condemn Bromley to defeat.

Smith praised all of his players after the final whistle and said he was delighted to be able to welcome back Max Porter to the first team.

The 29-year-old midfielder has endured a difficult time with injuries but played 20 minutes against League One play-off finalists Millwall.

Smith said: “Tobi [Sho-Silva] put in a fantastic performance but the biggest plus is Max Porter.

“We have waited a long time for him to come back and he’s worked his socks off to get where he is.

“It was great to give him 20 minutes and hopefully he’ll be back for the rest of the season now.

“He’s had some dark times but he showed his attitude to get back on the pitch – his work ethic is incredible.”
