More than 1,800 people have signed a petition to ban Millwall fans from attending away games after crowd disorder broke out at Wembley.

The Lions were beaten 3-1 by Barnsley in the play-off final to ensure they face another campaign in League One.

After the Tykes’ third goal effectively ended the contest with 15 minutes remaining, a group of Millwall fans moved towards the Barnsley end in the upper tier.

Footage has since emerged of supporters clashing in the stadium in a scene condemned by Millwall.

The club released a statement saying: “Millwall Football Club deplores the actions of a small minority of its fans during the second-half of Sunday's League One play-off final.

“Such behaviour is unacceptable and anyone found guilty of disorder will face life bans from the football club.”

In the aftermath of the Wembley clash, a petition was launched to “ban Millwall fans from every football ground”.

Over 1,800 people have signed the petition, which will allegedly be delivered to the Football Association and Prime Minister David Cameron once it meets its target.

The statement says: “This petition is to ban all Millwall fans from attending away games both in the cup and the league.

“Every week during the season, Millwall fans cause disruption to both the town/city they're attending the game in and the stadium they are at.

“For the safety of stewards helping out at the game, the fans of the home team and the local police it would be the best thing to do for both club and town/city.”

Police are conducting a review of the events at Wembley although no arrests were made on the day.

New Scotland Yard said in a statement: “An altercation between a small number of fans occurred. No arrests have been made at this stage and enquiries continue.”
