Aiden O’Brien praised Millwall fans for their support during the 3-0 victory against Oldham on Saturday.

Over 12,000 fans turned out for the Lions’ final home game of the season as a Byron Webster brace and a Shane Ferguson strike downed the Latics.

The result ensured Millwall will have a shot at promotion through the play-offs.

Speaking after the victory, O’Brien said: “Playing out there when the fans are like that, it just gives you that extra bit.

“When you’re on your last legs and you hear the fans cheering you on, it gives you that bit more.

“Even in that final five minutes when your body is telling you no more, the encouragement from fans gives you that extra five minutes in you to get over the line.”

Millwall secured their sixth straight home win at the weekend and O’Brien felt it was important to go into the play-offs on a high.

On Sunday the Lions travel to Gillingham – who still have an outside chance of breaking into the top six – and O’Brien has his sights set on another victory at the Priestfield Stadium.

O’Brien, 22, said: “The Oldham win was vital because the next game we play at home will be in the play-offs so we wanted to go into it with a win and get a good feeling around the stadium in preparation for the play-offs.

“But we’ve got Gillingham away and we need to win that one too – we’re not thinking about the play-offs right now.

“We’re going to hit Gillingham first and then go from there.”
