Neil Harris said Chris Taylor is exactly the type of player he wants at Millwall after the midfielder’s brace helped seal a 3-1 win at Bury on Saturday.

The Blackburn Rovers loanee opened the scoring from a corner after four minutes at Gigg Lane, before Steve Morison double the Lions’ advantage with his 18th goal of the season.

Bury hit back through Ryan Lowe, but Taylor turned home Morison’s cross on 83 minutes to put Millwall one point away from guaranteeing a play-off spot.

Harris said: “Chris has been here before and was very popular during his previous spells.

“I’ve played against him over the years and he's a quality player and person, and is the type of man we want at this football club.

“He deserved his two goals. The first one may have been a little bit lucky but the second was a great break into the box and he epitomised the work rate, energy and tempo we had about us.”

The victory kept Millwall’s faint hopes of automatic promotion alive, but with two games remaining it appears Harris’ side will have to settle for the play-offs.

The 38-year-old manager was impressed with how potent his side were against mid-table Bury.

“We had to adjust things at half-time to be as solid as possible and in the second-half we were a real threat on the counter attack,” he added.

“We were clinical in the final third and they were good goals. We've been a threat going forward all season and I think that has been down to the blend between youth and experience and getting that right.

“Aiden O'Brien became a real threat in the final half hour as the game opened up a little bit and then there was Steve Morison, who has been outstanding.”

Millwall welcome Oldham to the Den on Saturday before visiting fellow play-off hopefuls Gillingham in the final game of the season.
